Situated in North Melbourne, this facility is close to Melbourne’s major treating hospitals, including The Royal Melbourne Hospital, The Victorian Comprehensive Cancer Centre, and The Royal Children’s Hospital.
Facilities: This accommodation caters for people undergoing cancer treatment who must travel long distances, including rural, regional and interstate patients and their families. The building features 13 fully self-contained one- and two-bedroom apartments, providing a quiet and safe retreat after long days at the hospital.
Each apartment is equipped with internet access, television, DVD player, microwave, hotplates, refrigerator, iron and ironing board, toaster, kettle, crockery, cooking utensils, and cleaning equipment.
Building amenities include a communal lounge, gym, library, and children’s playroom.
BMDI House is not a medical facility. Please ensure you have received all relevant emergency contact numbers from your social worker or hospital prior to your stay.
Staying With Us
Bookings and rates: Bookings are made through your social worker and are subject to availability.
A minimal nightly fee applies per apartment. This is an out-of-pocket expense and invoices are issued fortnightly.
Eligibility for accommodation cost assistance should be discussed with your social worker. If eligible, applications must be submitted within the first two weeks of your stay; otherwise, the full accommodation fee will apply. Our accounts team will contact you to provide support and guidance throughout this process.
Check in and out: Check-in times are scheduled through your social worker. Check-out is by 10.00am.
If you are unable to arrive at your scheduled time, please contact the House Manager. While staff are not on site full-time, our team visits the centre regularly and remains available to support guests and families as needed.
Car Parking: Limited parking is available, with one vehicle per unit permitted, subject to availability.
Wi-Fi is available. Login instructions can be found in the compendium located in each room.
Laundry/Linen: Bed linen and towels are provided weekly. Guests are required to change their own linen and place used items in the designated laundry area downstairs. Laundry facilities, including a washing machine and dryer, are available on site.
Visitors are welcome but must be met at the front entrance and signed in and out of the building. Overnight visitors are not permitted unless prior arrangements have been made. Additional guests may incur a fee. Please speak with the Guest Support and Facilities team for further information.
