Please don’t let cancer rob young students of their education. Please donate today to help children fighting cancer get back to school.
Cancer takes so much from a child.....but your gift to support Fight Cancer Foundation Education Programs, means a young person like Rabia will NOT lose her dreams.
Rabia had always been full of energy and enthusiasm. And so it came as a real shock to her - and her family - when she began to feel extremely exhausted for no reason.
The usually bright and bubbly girl would arrive home from school and collapse, waking many hours later to try and complete her homework...before collapsing again.
As Rabia recalls..."It was just unexplainable. I didn't know what was going on. No one could tell me what was going on. I felt completely out of control."
After seeing a local doctor, Rabia was rushed to hospital for urgent tests. Her white blood cell count was so high that doctors said they'd never seen anything like it.
In fact, Rabia was later told that if she had arrived in hospital even a day later, it may have been impossible to save her.
She admits she was unaware just how serious things were. "My school friends called me and they were upset. I said 'Why are you crying? I'll be back at school on Monday, don't worry'."
But slowly, it dawned on Rabia that she wouldn't be able to go back to normal life for months, or even years...
This is the dream-crushing reality of a cancer diagnosis for a young person like Rabia.
On average, young cancer patients are absent from school for up to six months during treatment and recovery. This prolonged absence can result in devastating consequences at a crucial time in a young person's education.
Your generous gift today will help fund Fight Cancer Foundation Education Support Programs so young students can continue their education - and maintain those vital connections with their school friends - while undergoing life-saving treatment.
Will you please help a young person like Rabia keep their dreams alive during the most challenging time of their young lives
If you can, please donate today to keep children like Rabia learning even while they are fighting cancer.
It's hard to imagine just how frightening and soul-destroying it is for a young person like Rabia to suddenly have their plans for the future ripped away from them.
While they're undergoing treatment in hospital, their school mats are learning new skills, progressing in their studies, getting closer to their goals one day at a time. And even when the day finally comes that they are ready to go back to school, the feelings of having been left behind and on the outside can be incredibly powerful. Children often struggle to transition back into school. This another reason why your support of Fight Cancer Foundation Education Support Programs is so important.
Rabia says that receiving o0ngoing education support during her treatment gave her hope for the future and helped her to transition back into school - describing it as 'a light at the end of the tunnel'.
'"If hat program wasn't there, I don't know where I would be right now - that support, catching up with teachers, checfking in - that makes a big difference."
When you send a generous gift today, you can help ensure experienced teachers are right there alongside a ypung person like Rabia, providing an education that is tailored to their needs. You'll be supporting a team of teachers and support staff who work with families and schools to develop individual support and learning plans that meet the educational, social and welfare needs of the young patients. Your gift will also help provide one-on-one tutoring, online sessions and group learning activities.
But more importantly, you'll be helping to keep dreams alive for young people like Rabia.
Your generous gift would remind a child receiving cancer treatment that they CAN dream big.
And there's another really important way your gift today will help as well - you'll also be relieving pressure on parents too. And that can make a huge difference.
Your gift to support our education support programs can relieve the pressure to give up work, because mums and dads know their child's education can continue with our Education Support Programs and without them having to fill in as teachers as well as carer. Please will you take the opportunity this summer to help children going through the hardest months they'll ever face?
Your gift won't just give them an education. It will keep their dreams alive.
As Rabia herself says..."The Fight Cancer Foundation Education Support Program helped me to achieve my dreams."
In fact, thanks to generous supporters like you, Rabia went on to achieve everything she had planned. First she went to Melbourne University. Then she joined the exchange program she wanted at Queen's University in Canada. And then she went on to work for one of the big four banks, just as she had hoped and planned.
She did the hard work herself, but support like yours made it possible.
Thank you so much for everything you do to help children like the girl Rabia was in 205 to become happy and successful adults like the amazing woman she is today.
It’s only thanks to your donation that young cancer patients like Rabia was can continue to fulfil their hopes and dreams.
