Michelle's Story of Hope
How long does it take for your family’s life to change forever?
Michelle, a devoted mother of two children you help through Fight Cancer Foundation, discovered the answer on 24 September 2017.
This was the day blood tests showed that Michelle had acute myeloid leukemia. On a social post media, Michelle wrote:
“Love right now. Life can change in an instant.”
The results meant Michelle wasn’t allowed to go back home as she required urgent treatment.
How do you maintain family life when mum is in hospital, you have two young girls, and home is three hours away?
Michelle’s husband Karl was making a six-hour round trip three times a week, so life could feel a little bit ‘normal’ for their daughters …
Michelle says it was stressful, and she could see the toll it was taking on Karl.
That worry can impact a patient’s response to treatment. This is why your help through Fight Cancer Foundation is so critical.
Your donation is needed urgently to give families like Michelle’s a safe place to stay, so they can be by each other’s side, and fight cancer together.
Michelle recalls vividly what this meant for her:
“I got to see the girls every day, even when I was in the hospital...that was just amazing for my mental health.”
Through Fight Cancer Foundation you help create a home away from home for families facing cancer…… and that helps build the strength they need on their cancer journey. That means better response to treatment and hope for a faster recovery.
Our challenge going into 2020 is more and more families like Michelle’s are needing support.
That’s why we must work together now to make sure that families who need a place to stay, get the help they need from Fight Cancer Foundation as soon as they need it.
Your help with a special donation is critical.
Your gift will help provide a home away from home for a family like Michelle’s facing cancer.
Your kindness gives simple things - a playroom with toys for children, a kitchen so families can save money by cooking their own meals, a quiet area for when mum or dad (or kids) need time away to gather their thoughts.
Simple things, but vital.
By donating to Fight Cancer Foundation today, you help keep our home away from home accommodation centres running year-round so families can stay together during their toughest times.
You know best how much you can help.
We will make sure your kindness is directed where it is needed most urgently, so you can have the greatest personal impact.
The good news about Michelle is she is now in remission.
She had a stem cell transplant and says she is doing “amazingly well” and “starting to feel normal again”.
Michelle is even back at work as a kindergarten teacher!
This is what you do for people through Fight Cancer Foundation, and that’s why I want you to know exactly what Michelle says you gave her:
“… little bright spots in our time there that were special and made it a positive experience despite everything.”
This is how you can change a family’s life forever.
You do it in an instant with your kindness and caring donation. We ask you to do this today because the best way to fight cancer is… together.
