Faces of Hope Peter Horwood
A supporter of Fight Cancer Foundation for more than 10 years, Peter Horwood has recently begun donating home-spun and knitted beanies to support people living with cancer at our accommodation centres. On top of his donations Peter who has Autism Spectrum, Asbergers syndrome and Parkinsons head tremour, also volunteers with his local Church and op shop.
What do you do?
In 1980, I was on a walking trek in New Zealand and found a shop that sold spinning wheels, I bought one and shipped it home. When possible I use original sheep fleece and spin it myself – it’s warmer and harder wearing. I tram, train and bus everywhere so I tend to knit pretty much every day, which means lots of beanies to donate.
How did you become involved with Fight Cancer Foundation?
I became aware of Fight Cancer Foundation through Rotarian Peter Green who was involved in fundraising to establish Fight Cancer Foundation’s first accommodation centre BMDI Rotary House back in early 2002. I was very impressed and decided to contribute whenever I was able.
Why do you choose to continue to donate to Fight Cancer Foundation?
I like helping people, working hard and knitting. If my beanies can help, I am very happy to continue knitting and donating them to hopefully make life a little more comfortable for cancer patients.
