A letter from the MD: COVID-19
It has been a truly challenging start to 2020. First the horrific bushfires and now a global pandemic, which is having extraordinary an impact on all aspects of our lives.
On that note, I must share the troubling news that we are facing unprecedented interruptions to our fundraising efforts, with our major events and fundraising campaigns postponed or cancelled. This is placing our support programs at risk of being reduced or cut.
I cannot begin to contemplate the harm this might do to people living with cancer who need our support, and so I must ask if you will make a much needed donation today to help safeguard our vital support services.
I know this is a time of great stress for many, and I hope you, your family and community are keeping safe and well.
As we all adapt to this new way of life, I take comfort in knowing we are in this together. I also take comfort in knowing the Fight Cancer Foundation community is made up of generous and loyal people, like you, who understand the importance of looking after the most vulnerable during times of crisis.
People receiving and recovering from cancer treatment are among the most vulnerable to COVID-19. Their compromised immune systems increase the risk of contracting COVID-19, and could result in a more severe infection, with potentially devastating results.
I want to take this opportunity to assure you that Fight Cancer Foundation is doing all we can to ensure the safety and well-being of people living with cancer and their families.
For instance, we have ‘locked-down’ our accommodation centres to visitors and introduced strict cleaning protocols. We are also working closely with health authorities to ensure our guests are connected with the most up-to-date information and advice.
Most importantly, we are continuing to provide cancer patients and their families with an extremely safe environment, close to the best medical care available.
As you will appreciate, cancer never takes a break, and neither can we. Fight Cancer Foundation’s practical support services are needed now more than ever. So is your support.
Please consider making a donation today. It will make a world of difference to people fighting cancer during this most difficult time. Together, we can weather this storm and continue to provide critical support to Australians living with cancer.
Yours with best wishes,
Eric Wright
