2018 Volunteer of the Year
Congratulations to Mr Jack LeBel who has been named Fight Cancer Foundation's Volunteer of the Year for 2018!
Jack, a professional masseuse, started volunteering at Fight Cancer Foundation's North Melbourne accommodation centre in 2010. Every week Jack donates three massage sessions to patients and their families staying at the accommodation centre.
For the past nine years Jack has dedicated his personal time and professional expertise to offer residents a moment of respite during an emotional and stressful time. Jack's friendly disposition means he not only offers massage therapy services, but he also “lends an ear”, providing BMDI Rotary House residents with support and understanding.
Jack is a valued member of the Fight Cancer Foundation community, and we are so grateful to his contribution to the philosophy of BMDI Rotary House - “To provide a caring and supportive environment in which families live as normal a life as possible under enormously difficult circumstances.”
Jack's award was celebrated at BMDI Rotary House on Thursday 19 July with family, Fight Cancer Foundation staff and residents. While Jack was honoured to receive the award, he made it clear that the real satisfaction of volunteering was being able to help people when they needed it most. A massage may mean that a patient is able to get a good night's sleep - this can make a world of difference for someone having intensive treatment for cancer.
On behalf of Fight Cancer Foundation’s Board of Directors, we thank Jack for his hard work, commitment and passion, which inspires those around him. We sincerely appreciate his ongoing support and his extraordinary contribution to the fight against cancer.
