You may have seen Daniel’s cheeky smile in our recent appeal. Daniel was diagnosed with Acute Myeloid Leukaemia at the age of three after his parents noticed he was extremely tired and a deep, blue bruise appeared on his leg.
Living on a dairy farm, Daniel’s family had to relocate for his six months of treatment. Luckily, they were able to stay at one of Fight Cancer Foundation’s accommodation centres close to Daniel’s treating hospital – a major relief as the family was also preparing for the impending arrival of Daniel’s baby brother, Mitchell.
The design of our accommodation meant Daniel’s grandparents could stay and help support his mum, allowing his dad to continue to run the family farm throughout Daniel’s treatment. Our centres provide a safe and comfortable haven for families, helping to alleviate the financial stress caused by serious illness. Families are also supported by a community of families in similar circumstances, which can mean so much in the fight against cancer.
In hospital Daniel took part in our education support program, ensuring that now he’s back at home, he’s at the same learning level as his peers. Daniel enjoyed attending kindergarten every day and playing and learning with his friends – for which his parents are grateful.
During his stay, Daniel celebrated Footy Colours Day with professional players and loveable Fight Cancer Foundation mascot Bo Bear and joined in Fight Cancer Foundation’s Christmas festivities!
Daniel and his family have returned home and are back to enjoying life on the farm.
