Faces of Hope: Jennifer Carnell
There are many faces in the fight against cancer and Jennifer Carnell is one of them.
Jennifer’s involvement with Fight Cancer Foundation has evolved from experiencing our support firsthand to becoming an advocate for our programs and services.
Jennifer first learnt of Fight Cancer Foundation’s support services when her sister’s
husband, Jason, was diagnosed with Acute Lymphoblastic Leukaemia in 2009. During Jason’s treatment, his wife Kylie and their three daughters stayed in our accommodation centre in Melbourne, BMDI Rotary House.
Living in Adelaide, Jennifer’s husband and son wanted to do something tangible to help. So the pair organised a bike ride from Adelaide to Jason and Kylie’s hometown of Geelong to raise funds to help other families like Jason and Kylie’s.
A week before the first ride, Jason passed away. The ride went ahead in his honour and has continued to grow ever since. Called ‘The CureTOUR’, the ride has raised more than $100,000 for cancer research and support.
Fight Cancer Foundation recently launched its Back on Track education support program at the Women’s and Children’s Hospital in Adelaide, and with Jennifer’s help we continue to grow our presence, services and partnerships in South Australia.
“Helping to establish Fight Cancer Foundation in a new state is exciting, challenging and very rewarding – I feel very blessed to be involved with this foundation,” said Jennifer.
